Wilderness Way
Community Common Practices Living more deeply into the spiritual-social practices of
Sabbath, Jubilee and Shalom requires intention and reflection. To support the process of shifting our lives
and habits to reflect these values, we keep a “Sabbath, Jubilee, Shalom
(SJS) Journal,” reflecting on each of these values as invited below. The WWC gathering on the fourth Sunday of each month provides an opportunity to share with others about your discoveries, reflections, struggles, and blessings of seeking to live sabbath, jubilee and shalom in our lives. SABBATH: Resisting the pressure to incessantly "do" and "produce" by re-grounding oneself in the beauty, abundance and trustworthiness of the sacred universe, in order to:Restore
balance to self and relationships, · Remember who we are and why we are here, and · Rekindle creativity and passion for life. PRACTICE: Every time you take an intentional Sabbath time (5 minutes, 1 hour, 1 day, etc.) beginning with the WWC Sabbath Opening Refrain, record it on your SJS journal along with any reflections on your Sabbath practice.JUBILEE: Redefining how much is enough in a hyper-consumer society, in order to:· Restore value to life and relationships in a capitalistic economy, · Release ourselves and others from the burdens of debt, wealth or poverty, and · Reduce the negative ecological impact of our lives on the planet. PRACTICE: Choose one financial document (credit card bill, bank statement, checkbook, etc.) each month and in light of our Jubilee definition, ponder/pray about “how much is enough” for you. Record any reflections in your SJS journal.SHALOM:
Recognizing the inherent wholeness and unity of all creation, in order to:
· Restore the birthright of all people to live without violence and to be treated with dignity, · Re-establish relationships of forgiveness and healing with others, including the earth and those who may be considered our "enemies," and · Re-create continually the conditions for peace in the midst of world cultures obsessed with war. PRACTICE: Post the Shalom Covenant throughout your house, at your work place, on your computer, wherever you will see it regularly. Seek to practice the Shalom Covenant in all your relationships – private and public, with human and non-human beings. Record any reflections in your SJS journal.
You are invited to bring your SJS journal to the fourth Sunday WWC gatherings. |
