The weather was perfect, allowing us to gather in the garden area behind our meeting room at Multnomah Monthly Meeting. Nature Sunday experiences at: Smith and Bybee Lakes Tryon State Park Powell Butte Nature Park Tualatin River Nature Reserve Walking the Esplanade Oak Island - Sunday, June 20, we explored "Oak Island" on Sauvie Island. Sauvie Island is an amazingly fertile island at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. It is a haven for birds. It was inhabited by the Multnomah Indians until they were almost completely wiped out by small pox and other diseases that European explorers (Lewis and Clark, etc.) brought. By 1910 the few remaining Multnomah Indians were moved to the Grand Ronde Reservation. Soren, as part of the study of nature, plants a garden. |
